Arte Institute, Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education and Residency Unlimited (RU), present the video Casita Press Play, Episode 1: Bored in Class by Amelia Saul on Wednesday, July 25 at 7:00 pm at the Instituto Cervantes. 

Casita Press Play, Episode 1: Bored in Class is the culmination of five-months of weekly workshops conducted by the artist Amelia Saul with fifteen students of Casita Maria, a 78 year old cultural and education center located in the South Bronx, one of the poorest Congressional Districts in the United States.

“Casita Press Play, Episode 1: Bored in Class recounts, in a combination of staged readings and reenactments, a Dantean adventure through a dreamy, perilous middle-school art class.  Each student is bored to tears, gets confronted by something wicked and vicious, and ultimately must fight for passage into a netherworld of enthusiastic, distracted, dancing vampires”, explains Amelia Saul.

This project was realized in the Fall 2011 within the framework of Amelia Saul’s joint residency with Casita Maria and Residency Unlimited. The screening at Instituto Cervantes inaugurates the Video Art Project series a year-round cycle of film and video screenings of works by RU artists and other artists, launched by Arte Institute and RU.

AMELIA SAUL is a video and performance artist based in Brooklyn, NY. She earned her MFA at New York University, and has exhibited at Momenta Art, Brooklyn, and 80WSE Galleries, NYC.  Following her Residency Unlimited /Casita Maria residency in 2011, she became a resident artist at Yaddo, NY. VIDEO ART PROJECT: Launched by Arte Institute and Residency Unlimited (RU), Video Art Project is a year-round cycle of film and video screenings of works by RU artists and other artists jointly selected by both organizations. The screenings take place in different venues throughout the city including the RU event space in Carroll Gardens. Video Art Project aims to offer a vital platform for artists pushing the boundaries of moving image media.
