Statement / Bio
2018 RU AlumThomas Canto is a self-thought artist whose active graffiti background has shaped his ultimate understanding of the urban environment. In his paintings, sculptures and public art installations, Canto goes in-depth in the exploration of architecture, optics, and impressions of infinity. His work also explores the relationships between the public and the architecture. Focused on abstraction, Canto obsessively digs into representations of speed and perspective.  Depth, geometry, and illusion are intricately intertwined in each work, foregrounding the question of how humanity and created material respond to one another.

Represented by the Matthew Liu Fine Arts space in Shanghai, Canto’s work has been exhibited internationally including at Bermel Von Luxburg gallery, Berlin Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, Rx Gallery, Paris,  ArtCentral, Projects section, Hong Kong (China) , Palais de Tokyo, Paris, Mohamed VI contemporary and modern art museum, Rabat (Morocco); K11 Foundation, Wuhan (China); Volklingen art Biennale, Germany; IMagda Danysz Gallery project, Shanghai and Paris. His work is in the permanent collection of The K11 Art Foundation (KAF), Hong Kong
