Statement / Bio
Like many of her works, From the Classic Apple references specific experiences, as they are relative and dependent on context, but also have the potential to become something transformed. Considering the idea of negotiation both in terms of material and metaphor, Hughes confronts the false dichotomies of transience/permanence, chaos/control, and certainty/guesswork, through her pieced-together collaged paintings. Her works are made using materials that have had previous existences and that are informed by surrounding circumstances.
