Statement / Bio

Analyzing the making process of the artwork is key to Kinu Kimura’s process. Unfolding the creative journey and exhibition mechanics is an attempt to understand where the artwork’s meaning and value in the contemporary art world and market lies. This work is part of a series where Kimura explores front entrances of galleries. She is also working on a series of art fairs floor maps drawings as a metaphorical way to transpose a three-dimensional exhibition space in a two dimensional one, which therefore can’t play the role of a container anymore. Staging the work raises the question of how contextualizing the latter directly influences the way we read and value the artwork. Whereas in her early work the artist makes use of colors and narrative shapes, her practice is driven by minimal aesthetics, creating simple installations using mostly raw and sober materials. Alongside, exploring and analyzing the making process of the artwork has always played a major role in the evolution of her body of work.
