Orbitals: travel program to Mexico for curators from the Arab world

Eligibility: Applicants must be curators and/or researchers in a field of contemporary art (all disciplines are welcome). Applicants must be from or living in the Arab world. Applicants must have at least five years’ professional work experience in a field of contemporary arts. Applicants must be able to demonstrate prior experience working on international projects, exchange, or collaboration in their home country or abroad. Applicants must be working in the non-profit/non commercial field. Applicants must be available to participate for the entire duration of the trip, and commit to taking part in all its activities and complete schedule.

Support: Airfare, insurance, and visa costs, as well as accommodations and per diem.

Costs: No costs.

Program Description:

ORBITALS: OPEN CALL MEXICO

For the inaugural edition of Orbitals, three curators will travel together to Mexico from June 4 to 14, 2018, visiting artists and curators as well as museums and other art institutions. Organized in collaboration with the Museo Rufino Tamayo in Mexico City, the program will also be partially tailored to the specific interests of the selected participants. Mophradat will cover airfare, insurance, and visa costs, as well as provide participants with accommodations and per diem.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

– Applicants must be curators and/or researchers in a field of contemporary art (all disciplines are welcome).

– Applicants must be from or living in the Arab world.

– Applicants must have at least five years’ professional work experience in a field of contemporary arts.

– Applicants must be able to demonstrate prior experience working on international projects, exchange, or collaboration in their home country or abroad.

– Applicants must be working in the non-profit/non commercial field.

– Applicants must be available to participate for the entire duration of the trip, and commit to taking part in all its activities and complete schedule.

APPLICATION

Applicants must send the following material in English or Arabic by email to residency@mophradat.org no later than February 18, 2018:

1. Full CV/resume including current address and citizenship.

2. Please answer each of these questions in maximum 250 words:

a) Who are you and what are your interests?
b) What are you working on at the moment?
c) Why are you interested in joining this trip (and have you been to Mexico before)?

PROCESS

– All applicants, whether selected or not, receive a response to their applications by March 9, 2018.

– Mophradat does not provide individual feedback explaining why an application was not selected.

– If selected, an agreement will be signed between the participant and Mophradat.

– A narrative reflection on the experience must be submitted to Mophradat within two weeks of returning from Mexico.
