Introduction:
Artists’ POINT, Slovakia is a continuation of the art residency which has been organized in North East India from 2016 in collaboration with the Slovak Embassy in New Delhi. The art residency programme will gather professional artists from around the World in Vrbovce, village in Slovakia surrounded by White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area, for two weeks. The art residency will provide an opportunity to experience the beauty of nature, culture and folklore of the region for the inspiration in the art work of residing artist.

Who can apply?

● Professional Musicians/sound artists composing their own songs/music (2 - 3 participants)

Selected artists will be notified asap, but at latest by 15th Jun 2018 via e-mail.

Selected artists will have up to 48 hours to confirm their participation.

C O N T E N T A N D P R O G R A M M E

The main focus of the art residency is the folklore of the region as the source of inspiration for the contemporary art practice. Programme will host at the same time 4-5 visual artists and 2-3 musicians. The Art Symposium is welcoming the application of the professional visual artists who focus in their art work on the areas suitable to the residency environment such as: traditional forms of particular region or natural and cultural specifics of the particular region etc. Musicians who compose their own songs/music and who are enthusiast towards fusion with the Slovak folk music and open for any collaboration with other musicians are the most eligible.
The artists will get an opportunity to explore the natural and cultural heritage of the region. Artists will be provided the time for individual contemplation and for execution of their art works in studio space near the accommodation. The interaction of resident artists with the local artists, musicians and resource professionals will be part of the programme in order to provide more deep insight to the history and specifics of the region. Artists will contribute their knowledge in organized workshops for local school children. There will be introduction evenings, where artists will screen their most important art works (visual artists) or perform their songs (musicians). At the end of the residency programme (Saturday 18th August 2018) there will be a final festival for the public where artists will present the created visual art works in exhibition (visual artists) and musical compositions (musicians) created during the art symposium.

Art Residency will provide:

Accommodation – Accommodation in village environment, surrounded by White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area of Slovakia. The accommodation has four rooms and two bathrooms (each room will by occupied by 2 artists). The accommodation has fully equipped kitchen. The local shops, bistro, pub, bus stop are in walking distance from the accommodation.

Studio Space – Studio space will be provided near accommodation.

Material – Musicians/sound artists will be provided with basic necessary sound equipment (discussed individually according to musician’s needs and availability).

Discussions with resource professionals who will provide interesting information for the inspiring artists in their creative process.

We expect from participating artists:

Musicians/Sound Art participants are expected to collaborate among other participants and invited local resource artists and produce original musical composition, which will be variation on one of the local folk song. The composition will be performed in public at the final event of the symposium and recorded for documentation of the art Symposium. The Participants will perform their own songs/music during the final event programme.

Artists should bring all other material/musical instrument for creating/composing art work which are not provided by organizers.

Visual Artists have to prepare digital presentation (power point or JPGs saved in order on pendrive) of his/her most important art works and achievements, which will be presented during introduction evenings between participants.

All artists are expected to facilitate mentorship workshop for youth/public within the duration of the symposium.
Participating artists will bear their transportation expenditure from their home country to residency in Vrbovce.
