2017 Open Call for Artists – Soulangh Artist Village (Taiwan)

Costs: 1. Free studio and accommodation. 2. Partly subsidized the living expense (excluding flight tickets) to selected artists.


Program Description:

2017 AIR Program

Soulangh Artist Village (SAV), Tainan, Taiwan

I. Introduction

International artists participating in Residence Program of SAV live in a vibrant community of artists and have the opportunity to exchange techniques and ideas with other artists; local and international, emerging and established. Artists live in close proximity to local craftsmen artisans and are encouraged to take the community and vibrant local culture as inspiration for their art works. The village has professional wheelchair accessible air-conditioned modern studio spaces, galleries and theatres for exhibitions, workshops and performances.

II. Institution
SAV is a governmental institute, operated by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Tainan City Government.

III. Time Schedule

1. Submission deadline: 1 December 2016 – 22 January 2017, 23:59 (UTC+08:00)
2. Examination: February 2017
3. Residence period: 1 March - 25 November 2017
(Each applicant can only be accepted for one term)

IV. AIR Theme for 2017

SAV takes as its theme the concept of ‘Site-Specific Art’. The artworks must respond to Soulangh Artist Village’s Environment (including warehouses, green spaces, outdoor equipment, railway landscape, children's art gallery, and either indoor or outdoor spaces), engage with local communities or natural, and historical sites. The resident program bases on outdoor space will be priority considered.

V. Eligibility

A. We welcome applicants who are interested in:
1. Interdisciplinary
2. Visual art
3. Performance
4. Photography

B. We especially encourage artists dedicated to the environment, children's art education or community engagement to develop resident program with their specialty upon the ‘site- specific art’ theme.

C. We welcome artists interested in photography and photography history research, bases on Tainan city to photograph and research.

All applicants must be able to communicate in either English or Chinese.
