INTERNATIONAL ART CRITICS IN RESIDENCE
PRESENTATION
Supporting art criticism and thinking about art are among the key projects of Frac Lorraine. This residence is an opportunity offered to international art critics and curators to meet artists and institutions from the SaarLorLux region and to develop a line of thought on some topics relating to the collection or eventually experiment with new modes of writing.
W. Bradley, A. Szylak, G. Carmine, A. Bianco, Y. Villalonga, I. Bago, S. Somogyi, M. Mircan, Y. Van Parys and Linara Dovydaityte already came in residence. Ileana Pintilie will be the next resident.
A 30m2 studio flat is set within the Frac Lorraine buildings to house art critics in residence. This initiative is unique in France and aims at fostering and encouraging the development of thought on contemporary art by accommodating art critics from all horizons, and enabling them to work within a structure responsible for disseminating creative work. Averaging three a year, these residences will be open to art critics, art historians and philosophers… A grant of 2000 euros will be paid for the period of residence (2 months max) and the travel expenses will be charged by the Frac.
The Art critic will be meeting the players in the Saarlorlux region (institutions, artists, association…) as listed quite independently by Frac Lorraine. He or she will lead the thinking process behind the Frac Lorraine collec- tion and notably about the direction taken towards the acquisition policy. This reflection may be subjected to restitution in the form of a text or article (to be defined).
The Art critic will also have possibility to propose a draft of a possible scenario for an exhibition based on the Frac Lorraine collection. Frac Lorraine shall make available to the Art critic the assistance of its personnel involved in the project and the equipment at their disposal (office, computer, telephone, car…), subject to availability.
The Art critic may be put in touch with various partner institutions, schools of Art/Architecture in the SaarLorLux region, in certain cases in the purpose of a meeting about the current situation of the art scene of his/her country and/or for the needs of his/her own personal research.

RÉSIDENCE INTERNATIONALE DE CRITIQUES D’ART
PRÉSENTATION
Le Frac Lorraine tisse une relation privilégiée avec l’écriture et propose notamment des résidences de critiques d’art internationaux qui portent la spécificité de leur regard sur la collection. Un temps de réflexion, d’expé- rimentation mais aussi de rencontres avec les acteurs de la scène artistique Saar-Lor-Lux.

Un studio de 30 m2, situé dans l’enceinte du Frac, accueille les critiques d’art en résidence. Cette initiative, unique en France, permet de stimuler et d’encourager le développement d’une pensée sur l’art contemporain en rendant possible la présence de jeunes critiques d’art au sein même d’une structure responsable de la diffusion du travail de création. Avec une moyenne de trois par an, ces résidences sont ouvertes à des critiques d’art, des historiens de l’art, des philosophes…
Une bourse de 2000 euros est prévue pour la période de résidence (deux mois maximum) et les frais de déplacements sont pris en charge par le Frac.
Le critique d’art rencontrera les acteurs culturels de la région Saarlorlux (institutions, artistes, associations…) choisis de façon indépendante par le Frac Lorraine. Il ou elle mènera une réflexion sur la collection du Frac Lorraine et notamment sur les directions prises pour la politique d’acquisition.
Cette réflexion devrait donner lieu à une restitution sous la forme d’un texte ou d’un article (à définir). Le critique d’art aura aussi la possibilité de proposer l’ébauche d’un possible scénario d’exposition à partir des œuvres de la collection du Frac. Le Frac Lorraine proposera au critique d’art l’assistance du personnel concerné par le projet et mettra à sa disposition son équipement (bureau, ordinateur, téléphone, voiture…), en fonction de sa disponibilité.
Le critique d’art peut être mis en contact avec des partenaires institution- nels variés, des écoles d’art /d’architecture de la région Saarlorlux, dans certains cas il peut lui être proposé une rencontre pour parler de la situation actuelle de la scène artistique de son pays et/ou pour nourrir ses recherches personnelles.
