Newfoundland is a pilot programme of residencies for contemporary visual artists, developed and delivered
through a partnership between Scottish Sculpture Workshop and Hospitalfield, Arbroath.
The Newfoundland programme exists to encourage artists to explore new territories, transforming local into
global networks and research into process.
In partnership with Hospitalfield in Arbroath, and Dundee University Exhibitions programme, Scottish Sculpture
Workshop invited three artists, Steven Anderson, Stuart Fallon and Mairi Lafferty, back to Newfoundland
following a month-long residency in Venice as part of the Scotland & Venice invigilation team.
Based at the Scotland & Venice palazzo, where Martin Boyce’s exhibition ‘No Reflections’ was shown, the
artists were given the brief of establishing collaborative networks with other international artists who were also
part of the temporary community living and working in Venice to support the Biennale.
Each artist was asked to invite another artist back to Scotland for a 1 month long residency at Hospitalfield House
in Arbroath, throughout November. The residencies now culminate in an exhibition at The Lower Foyer Gallery
at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee, to coincide with the return of the Martin Boyce
exhibition to Dundee Contemporary Arts.
The exhibition opens this Friday 4 December.
