Statement / Bio
2019 RU Alum Mikhailo Deyak is a young Ukrainian artist who works at the intersection of painting and sculpture. Having received a rigorous academic training, he applies a meticulous and disciplined process in all his works. He defines his practice as a balancing act between neo-expressionism and minimalism, with a keen interest in the experimentation of new materials. Non-narrative, his sculptures are a product of the artist’s reflections on the notion of space as a psychological product of our inner world.
His work has been shown among others at Solomiya Krushelnytska Lviv State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, Lviv, Ukraine, Joseph Bokshay Art Museum, Uzhgorod, Ukraine, Ukrainian Institute of America, New York, Voloshyn Gallery, Kiev, Ukraine SCOPE Basel, Museum of Spiritual Treasures of Ukraine, Kiev, and the Kiev National Museum of Russian Art Ukraine, Kiev.
