Statement / Bio

Kuldeep Sing is a multidisciplinary artist, creating a hybrid system of non-linear narratives in visual art and multi-media performance. He works through fragments in film projections, painting and soft sculptures in variable installation based environments. Weaving together Indian classical dance gestures, theatre, and visual art elements, his interests range from identity, queerness to environment informed by postcolonial thought. This painting comes from an on going series of small works exploring inventive scapes stemming from medieval Indian pre-colonial texts.

2018 RU Alum Kuldeep Sing is the recipient of residencies at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Yaddo, Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, and HH Art Spaces, Goa with ann award from Inlaks Foundation, Mumbai. He was awarded the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship – 2018, in the inter-disciplinary arts category. Kuldeep holds the National Freedom of Expression Award, Infinity Films – Mumbai (2009). He has performed at the Asia Society, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi, Metropolitan Museum-NYC (with scholar-dancer Rajika Puri), Delhi University, University College London, University of Iowa and University of Nebraska-Omaha.
