I am very excited to be participating with the emerging community of Residency Unlimited.  As I see it, community is a very apt word to describe what the effect is.  It is a very exciting prospect to be involved in such a new organic, fluid approach to the necessary supportive infrastructure for artists and art.  Art is a dynamic process that is always in need of breaking out of constraints and yet at times holding on to established lines of thought.  This is a paradoxical position that is best served by the mission of Residency Unlimited.

My practice has steadily been pushing outwards from a hermetic studio environment into several diverse branches of media, such as sound, public art, and curatorial approaches.  These are all tied to my general involvement in a critical involvement with reification and a deliberate misreading on my part of antisocial surrealism as social realism.  I am hoping to combine my various interests, or at least make their messy communal existence interesting, during my residency.  In collaboration with Residency Unlimited, maybe Greenberg’s “golden umbilical cord” can be sidestepped to counter Josephine Meckseper’s view of art lacking a universal language, being hindered by an “elitist structure.”
