Barbara Davis Gallery is pleased to announce spotlight, a group exhibition of recent work by Andrea Bianconi, Owen Drysdale, Judy Ledgerwood, Gavin Perry, Troy Stanley, and Rebecca Ward. spotlight opens November 21, 2014 with a reception from 6:30 – 8:30pm. This exhibition is on view through January 3, 2015.

spotlight features new drawings by Andrea Bianconi (Italy), new paintings by Owen Drysdale (New York),Judy Ledgerwood (Chicago), Gavin Perry (Miami), Rebecca Ward (New York), and sculpture by Troy Stanley (Houston).

About the artists:
Andrea Bianconi lives and works in New York and Vicenza. He was recently selected as one of the participating artists in the 5th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art. His solo and group exhibitions include The Museum of Fine Arts, Ghent, Belgium; Museu do Meio Ambiente in Rio de Janeiro; Centro del Carmen, Valencia, Spain; Matadero, Madrid, Spain; Film Society Lincoln Center, New York; Maraya Art Centre, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates; Swiss Architecture Museum (S AM), Basilea, Svizzera ; Kunsthal Charlottenburg, Copenhagen, Denmark; ISCP, Brooklyn, NY; Palazzo Reale, Milan, Italy; Furini Arte Contemporanea, Rome, Italy; Barbara Davis Gallery, Houston, Texas. His work has been reviewed in Artforum, Interni, Flash Art, Bejing Times, Shanghai Daily, Elle Décor.

Owen Drysdale lives and works in Syracuse, New York. He received his BFA in painting from Texas State University, San Marcos, and is currently pursuing his Master of Fine Arts in painting at Syracuse University. He was recently an Artist-in-Residence at the NAIRP, in collaboration with The Arts Council of Brazos Valley. He has exhibited at Barbara Davis Gallery, Houston and the Joann Cole Mitte Gallery I & II at Texas State University. His work has been reviewed in New American Paintings, The Houston Chronicle, Houston Press, Modern Dallas, and the Austin American-Statesman.

Judy Ledgerwood lives and works in Chicago. She received her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Ledgerwood is Director of Graduate Studies and Professor of Art Theory and Practice at Northwestern University. She is the recipient of numerous awards including The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award, an Artadia Award, a Tiffany Award in the Visual Arts, a National Endowment for the Arts Award, and an Illinois Art Council Award. Her work is represented in public collections including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, the Milwaukee Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and the Kunstmuseum St. Gallen Switzerland.

Gavin Perry lives and works in Miami. He received his BFA from Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia. His solo and group exhibitions include Contemporary Arts Museum Houston; Frederic Snitzer, Miami, Florida; Galerie Sultana, Paris, France; Miami Art Museum; Art Basel, Basel, Switzerland; White Box, New York; Barbara Davis Gallery, Houston; Bass Museum of Art, Miami, Florida; Buamet Sultana Gallerie in Mexico City and Paris, France. Perry is a recipient of the prestigious South Florida Cultural Consortium, which included an exhibition at the University Galleries of FAU. His work has been reviewed in Flash Art, Art in America, ARTnews, and Art Papers, and he was named an Artist to Watch in 2011 by The Art Economist.

Troy Stanley lives and works in Houston. He received his BFA from the University of Houston. His residencies include the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (Maine) and the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center (Nebraska). He has exhibited at Lawndale Art Center, Houston; University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA); and Barbara Davis Gallery, Houston. He is the recipient of a Houston Arts Alliance Emerging Artist Grant. Stanley’s public art commissions include the Art Recycle Truck project and Art Parking Meter Sculptures in collaboration with the City of Houston and the Houston Arts Alliance. His work is included in the public collection of William P. Hobby Airport, Houston.

Rebecca Ward lives and works in New York. She received her BA in Fine Arts from University of Texas and an MFA in Fine Arts from School of Visual Arts, New York. She has exhibited extensively in the United States, Europe, and South America. Her solo exhibitions include The Museum of Contemporary Art, Raleigh; Ronchini Gallery, London, UK; East Hampton Shed, East Hampton, NY; Barbara Davis Gallery, Houston; and a two person show with Carla Accardi, Bibo’s Place, Todi, Italy. Her work is included in the public collection of the Museum of New and Old Art, Tasmania. Ward’s group exhibitions include Maurizio Cattellan’s The Virgins at Family Business, New York (2012), curated by Marilyn Minter, Vogt Gallery, NY, among others.
